Jolien’s Road Trip to the Kilkee Cliffs
Belgium native, Jolien Wouters, has been on an Internship at Atlantic for the past few months. While here, she’s been making the most of her time off, exploring Galway City and County. Here’s how Jolien’s road trip to the Kilkee Cliffs went:
During my internship, I had the opportunity to join a brand-new tour of the Galway tour company. This tour took us from Galway city to the breathtaking Kilkee Cliffs. Our first stop was Ennis, a vibrant small town in County Clare. This city offers shops, pubs, but also some interesting heritage. The Ennis Friary is impressive; this monastery was founded in the 13th century and was beautifully preserved. We drove into Kilkee town about an hour later for a lunch break. Let me tell you, I’ve had the best curry of my life there. Hickie’s bar and restaurant offers the best food in town, with loads of options.

Back to the bus, because a spectacular tour around the cliffs was waiting for me. Our first stop was at the Bridges of Ross. The sun came through at the right moment and reflected onto the blue water. Not a single tourist in sight, no fences or walls blocking the view. It was simply perfect for me, and I could have stayed there all day. I was sucked into some kind of zen world, where I didn’t even need my headphones to block out noise. I just listened to the sound of the waves and seagulls.
But the tour eventually had to continue. We made three more stops along the way before we made it back into Kilkee town. We had the chance to wander around the bay, and it would have been perfect to take a dive here if the temperature were a little more appropriate for it. We arrived back in Galway late; the tour was so peaceful to me that I immediately fell asleep when my head hit my pillow.
Unfortunately, a bus tour isn’t available yet, but if you have the chance to rent a car, this is a 10 out of 10 experience.
